What does registration include?

All registrations include: Access to two days of workshops and classes, group entry into dance performance competition, four kosher meals and snacks, and a T-shirt.​

What is the registration due date?

Registration closes on January 15. Register early to secure your place!​

LOGISTICS

​

What meals are included?

The meals provided are Sunday lunch and dinner, and Monday breakfast and lunch.

​

What about snacks?

We know dancers get hungry and need to refuel. Snacks and water are included as well.​

​

Will the food be kosher?

Yes. All meals and snacks provided will be kosher per standards of the Vaad of Greater Washington. If you have specific dietary needs and/or allergies, please let us know on your registration form and we will do our best to accommodate.​​

I'm coming straight to the conference venue. What do I do with my luggage?

We got you covered. You may safely store baggage with us. Since they may not be accessible throughout the day, we recommend also packing a day bag with everything you need for the Day 1 classes and competition to keep with you. Be sure to include water bottle, dance shoes, class clothes, and competition costumes, make-up, etc.​​

What is the timing of the conference?

Plan to arrive at venue by 12:00 pm on Sunday. ​Programming will end by 1:30 pm on Monday afternoon.

​

Where is the best place to stay?

Those who wish may reserve a room at our special discounted rate for Elevate participants and chaperones. Cambria Hotel Rockville, 1 Helen Heneghan Way, Rockville, MD 20850, The hotel is a convenient ten minute drive from the venue. Group Rate: $94/night (+fees). Includes: two queen beds and a pull out couch. I am coming by myself. How can I find someone to share a hotel room or a ride with?

If you are an adult coming on your own and looking for a roommate, once you register you will be given access to the Elevate WhatsApp group to help facilitate finding roommates and rides.

I have to be at school/work on Monday. Can I attend?

Elevate is a two day conference, with exciting classes and workshops throughout both days. If you must report to school or work on Monday and still would like to attend the conference, reach out to us at elevatedanceconference@gmail.com.

ELEVATE JUNIOR

What is Elevate Junior?

NEW this year we are introducing Elevate Junior as a way for younger dancers to benefit from all Elevate has to offer. There will be a separate track of classes and workshops specially geared toward this age.

What ages can participate in Elevate Junior?

Dancers ages 8-11 years old by the date of the conference.

​

Do Elevate Junior dancers take classes with everyone else?

Elevate Junior is its own special, separate track of classes and workshops where dancers ages 8-11 can learn and have fun with dancers in their own age group.

​

Can Elevate Junior dancers take part in the dance competition?

Yes! We look forward to seeing all of our dancers who wish to compete shine on stage. Any Elevate Junior competition participant group who is not affiliated with a dance studio must submit a video of their piece prior to the competition in order to compete. Please submit at elevatedanceconference@gmail.com.

Are chaperones required?

In order to make sure our younger dancers are properly supervised, there must be a student-to-chaperone ratio of at least 5:1 We offer special chaperone pricing on our registration page.

DANCE COMPETITION

​

Do I have to compete?

The dance competition is an opportunity to perform in front of an audience and share your hard work and artistry. While there is no requirement to compete, expect a fun and supportive space of mutual respect with fellow frum dancers.

The dance competition sounds exciting! Can I come just to compete? 

The dance competition is a part of the larger Elevate Conference, which offers so much more than just the competition. It's the opportunity to build your own artistry and contribute to the incredible frum dance community we are creating. For this reason, we are only offering the opportunity to compete to individuals who are registered and attending the Elevate Conference.

How much time do I have for my piece?

Duets and trios will have up to TWO MINUTES, and groups of four or more have up to THREE MINUTES.

​

How many people can be in a piece?

In order to include as many dancers as possible in the timeframe we have, we will be allowing duets & trios and group pieces.

​

Can I perform in more than one piece?

To make sure we have time to include everyone in the competition, each dancer may only perform ONE TIME in the competition.​

​

How will the competition be scored?

Scoring will be based on our Elevate values, which celebrates dance as an artistic language. Rather than rewarding the biggest tricks or most difficult choreography, we honor performances that demonstrate artistic authenticity, collaboration, thoughtful movement, musical connection, intentional technique, and meaningful storytelling. Technique is always evaluated within the context of the dancers’ age, training, and artistic goals. For a more detailed scorecard, click HERE.

What are the music guidelines?

Music should be Jewish and/or instrumental.

​

What are the costume guidelines?

Costumes should have tops that cover collarbone, sleeves,  and skirts that cover the knees.

​

Can I choreograph my own piece?

All pieces must be choreographed by an adult/professional.

​

What the due date to submit?

Please send in by JANUARY 15: edited music files, names of the dancers, and title of your piece.

Can my mom/grandma/aunt/sister/friend watch me perform in the competition?

Yes! We love having friends and family support our dancers. Tickets are available here.

​

What about chaperones who are registered in the conference?

Chaperones and participants who are not competing or performing will be in a reserved section of the auditorium to cheer on their fellow dancers. These tickets are included with their registration.

 

ADULT/TEACHER SOLOS

​

What are Adult/Teacher solos?

While adults in duets, trios, and groups are welcome in the competition, if, instead, you would prefer a non-competitive opportunity to perform, there will be an opportunity for adult/teacher solos to perform without being scored. Please upload your audition video where it asks to do so on the registration form.

How much time do I have for my piece?

Solos will have up to 90 SECONDS.

​

I would like to perform a dance with my daughter. Is this allowed?

Yes! We love seeing your work and creating intergenerational art. Keep in mind, a dancer may only dance ONE TIME, in EITHER as an adult/teacher solo OR in the competition.

Can I dance in the competition and the adult/teacher solos?

No. A dancer may only dance ONE TIME, as EITHER an adult/teacher solo OR in the competition.

The elevate conference sounds great. How can I help support it?

We have kept registration fees low to ensure more dancers can attend. The registration fees, though, do not cover the costs of putting on the conference. REFUNDS & CANCELLATIONS

 

What is the timeline for refunds?

Cancellations before December 30 will receive a 90% refund. Cancellations December 30 and after will receive a 50% refund. Cancellations after January 15 will not receive a refund.
